Canoe Expedition

Canal Expedition

This is a two day paddle journey on the Grand Western Canal camping overnight at campsite halfway along the route.

This is very simple trip. Starting near Tiverton we get kitted up and launch our Canadian canoes. After some tips on paddling, we set off along this little known waterway. The whole canal is a nature reserve and is teeming with life, every thing from water lilies to kingfishers. The water is clear and easy to paddle. The route goes through wooded valleys and open fields passing bridges and cottages. We will be taking our time, with several stops along the way as we journy towards our campsite. Finally after landing the boats we set up camp and cook tea. The evening is spent relaxing and playing games on the campsite field. A night in the tipi tents sees us waking for breakfast and preparing to leave. Once back on the water the canal leads us past Victorian quarries and lime kilns. The wildlife still ever present, we paddle towards the end, entering into a narrow tunnel through a hill finally brining us to the end of our journey.

Our transport meets us here and we head for home.
